Accessibility
What we have done to make this site usable for everyone, what we have not yet verified, and how to tell us when something is not working.

Our commitment
A mortgage is one of the largest financial decisions most people make. Everyone should be able to research it, compare options and reach us, regardless of how they use the web.
We build this site to be usable with a keyboard alone, with a screen reader, at increased text sizes, with reduced motion enabled, and with high-contrast settings. Where we fall short, we want to hear about it and fix it.
What we have built in
- Every page can be operated by keyboard, with a visible focus indicator that we do not remove
- A skip-to-content link is the first thing a keyboard user reaches on every page
- Form fields have permanent visible labels. A placeholder is never used as a label
- Form errors are announced to screen readers and never signalled by colour alone
- Colour combinations are checked against WCAG contrast ratios as part of our build
- Interactive targets are at least 44 by 44 pixels with real spacing between them
- Motion is reduced automatically when your device asks for reduced motion
- Menus and dialogs trap focus while open and return it where you left off
- Images that carry meaning have alternative text; decorative ones are hidden from screen readers
Where we stand on standards
We design and test against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. Automated accessibility testing runs against every page of this site, on both desktop and mobile layouts, as part of our build process, and currently reports no violations.
We want to be straightforward about what that does and does not mean. Automated testing can only detect a portion of accessibility problems. It can confirm that an image has alternative text, but not that the text is useful. So we do not claim full WCAG 2.2 AA conformance, and we will not until the site has been audited by people who use assistive technology day to day.
If that matters to you and you would like to know where we have got to, ask us. We will tell you honestly.
Known limitations
Some parts of this site rely on third-party services we do not control, such as property search. Where that is the case we note it on the page, and we will always give you a direct way to reach a person instead.
One specific example: the market rates panel on our rates page is supplied by Mortgage News Daily and displayed exactly as they provide it, because their terms require that. Parts of it use small text and low-contrast colours that fall short of the standard we hold our own pages to, and we cannot change them. The same figures are published on mortgagenewsdaily.com, and you are always welcome to call us and we will read them to you.
If a third-party tool is preventing you from doing something, contact us and we will complete it with you directly. You should never be shut out of a service because a supplier's tool does not work for you.
Tell us about a problem
If any part of this site is difficult or impossible for you to use, we want to know. There is no formal process to follow. A phone call or an email is enough.
If you can, telling us these three things helps us fix it faster: the address of the page, what you were trying to do, and what happened instead. If you use assistive technology, knowing which one is genuinely useful. But please do not let missing any of that stop you from getting in touch.
What happens after you tell us
- We aim to acknowledge every report within two business days
- We will tell you what we found and whether we can fix it
- If a fix will take time, we will say so and give you a way to get what you needed in the meantime
- If you needed to do something on the site, we will do it with you over the phone rather than make you wait
